On Tuesday, April 22nd, anytime between 8:00am and 8:00pm, I urge you to cast your vote to re-elect me, Rick Kotar, for Elected Full Time Officer and General President.

For well over 20 years, I have been a very active member of our Local; from Outside Division Shop Steward to being elected by you in 2006 as General President and Full Time Officer.

Issues affecting our members continue to be my primary focus, and I strive daily to ensure your rights are protected.

Forging Relationships

Over the past three years I have worked hard to build and maintain positive communication links between the Local and City of Burnaby departmental heads, Human Resources staff, the City Manager Bob Moncur, members of Burnaby City Council and Mayor Derek Corrigan.

Although the union and management will not  always agree on subjects brought forward by either party,  it is important to maintain the working relationships between both parties for consistency and durability.

Successful Bargaining

After 6-months of frustration at the bargaining table, I was able to use the positive communication links to meet with City Officials, including Mayor Corrigan, with the view to resume negotiations without the negative interference of the GVRD. Once these special meetings began, we were able to reach what many members consider to be the best collective agreement in more than 20 years.

Efficient Resolutions

Through the strong communication links with management, I can reach many other agreements covering  the varied aspects within our workplace; including job evaluations, reclasses, grievance issues and compassion needs.

My goals remain the same; maintain and/or improve your working conditions, protect your rights, ensure there is pay equity, to name a few.
